No, "BFMTV" never said that thermal cars would be banned from resale in June 2025, as this TikTok video claims.

"Your thermal car is banned from resale, 7,500 euros fine", "It's official! From June 2025, you will no longer be able to sell your petrol or diesel car", this is what we can read and hear in a video posted on Tiktok on May 5th and which has already accumulated nearly 450,000 views as of Tuesday, May 20th, 15 days after its publication.
A video from the account "Actus24H" , under the username "@info_108", which has 98,000 subscribers and offers "exclusive news in 1 Minute!", like the one about this alleged ban which would apply from June 1st.
"According to BFMTV, only 100% electric or hydrogen vehicles will be authorized for resale," the video explains, although there is no corresponding source when searching for a video from BFMTV's broadcast or an article on the website.
A "fake news" or hoax that is based on a certain confusion with the objective of banning the sale of new thermal cars in the countries of the European Union by 2035. And which does not concern the resale of used cars.
The only potential threat to combustion-engine vehicles currently in circulation is the implementation of low-emission zones (LEZs), which gradually prohibit access to major urban areas in Europe based on engine type, with some cities eventually allowing only electric cars to circulate. But nothing concrete yet: Paris, for example, planned for 2030 for this milestone, but continues to push back the bans on driving petrol and diesel cars built before 2006, without automatic fines being implemented.
On May 19, another piece of automotive fake news: "It's official: driving without a license will be authorized in France from May 2025," notes the video description. The video states that this measure would actually apply "from June (sic) 2025."
But what will happen in May or in "Join" 2025? "It will be legal for a learner driver to take the wheel without a license, without an instructor, and without an escort, a first in the country's history." This is false, especially since it would be a "measure proposed by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin," who did indeed hold this position between July 2020 and September 2024, but has currently been Minister of Justice since December 2024.
The idea would be to "relieve congestion in driving schools" by allowing learner drivers to practice in real conditions, which is again not current, but allows the authors of the video to call for their opinion in the comments: "What do you think? Good idea or public danger? Say it in the comments and subscribe so you don't miss any news about the laws that change your daily life."
